June 27, 2011 Gobblers, Fans, and Parents: I am very grateful your continued support over the years and for this upcoming season. Especially, thanks to all of you – the fans, parents, students, faculty, administration, cheerleaders, Trotters, band, color guard, booster clubs, student managers, student trainers, and more – who make our Cuero football community the best in Texas.
Our young men return to the football field in 2011 with high expectations and hopes after last year's run that produced our ninth consecutive district championship. Our road this year will be every bit as challenging with one of the state’s toughest non-district schedules. We travel to Wimberley, Liberty Hill, and Bellville before we host Pt. Lavaca on August 16. The next week start with our District 28AAA opponents: Pleasanton, La Vernia, Yoakum, Poteet, Sam Houston, and Gonzales.
Our coaching staff is very excited about this team. We have 17 lettermen returning from last year's playoff-tested team, including 5 offensive starters and 5 defensive starters. And, while we prepare this year's Gobblers for the challenges on the field, we also are committed to ensure they succeed in the classroom and continue to learn and understand the value of having high morals, working hard, and being good citizens. Our players are working hard this summer. Our “Strength and Conditioning Camp” runs Monday through Thursday 8:00-10:00am and 5:00-7:00pm. Our coaches work with our players to make them stronger, faster, and have more agility.
As you all have entrusted me and my staff to train these young men to be Champions for Life, please know that I am proud to serve as their head coach. GO MEAN GREEN!
Sincerely, Rick Owens Athletic Director / Head Football Coach |

From Advosports.com: AUSTIN - Goliad's Amber Perry and Cuero's Buster Hansel not only love to win, they hate to lose. From Peggy Smith:
Tuesday Warm-up game vs. Wiemer Cuero 12, Weimer 6 Winning Pitcher: Andrew Thibodeaux (6 inn. 3 K's, 3 ER)
Friday's Warm-up game vs. Giddings: Giddings 8, Cuero 7
"Both of these games really gave us a great look at what we will be up against for the next couple of weeks. They were both great teams with very solid pitching. We had not seen good pitching for a couple of weeks and it was much needed. Our guys did a great job of making offensive runs late in the game to put us in position to win."
Area Round Playoff vs. Salado Cuero (18-13) vs. Salado (22-8) Game 1: Thurs., May 12 @ Bastrop High School (7:00 p.m.) Game 2: Friday, May 13 @ Bastrop High School (7:00 p.m.) Game 3: Saturday, May 14 @ Bastrop High School (12:00 p.m. if needed)
**Bastrop High School Field is not on the high school campus. Here are the directions to the field:The baseball field is not located at the high school. From Akins, go north on I-35, east on Texas Highway 71 to Bastrop. Cross the bridge over the Colorado River and take the first exit onto the service road. Look for the signs that say “High School Baseball Field.” Turn right (south) onto Lovers Lane. Go south to baseball field. Be careful of a couple of sharp turns in this road. Concession stand (which is not always open) and spacious, clean restrooms. MOSQUITOS!! Bring insect repellant. The baseball field is near the Bastrop ISD school bus facility. A very nice ball field, but be prepared for a heavy dose of diesel fumes if you’re there while the buses are being refueled. (The diesel does, however, help drive away the mosquitos.) PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT OUR GOBBLERS! |
